about the project

Brochure 1: The Banská St a nica Contemporary is located at the Štokovec industrial premises of the railway station in Banska Stiavnica since 2009. It is an open platform for a wide range of activities for professional artists, such as workshops, symposia and (micro-)residencies.

There are amongst others accommodation and studio facilities for artists, a gallery in the waiting room and a mobile shop with books, magazines and other publications.

Their speciality is a so-called traveling residency. In cooperation with Slovak Rail residents are offered a free 1st class ticket with unlimited opportunity to travel by train in Slovakia.

The organisation also houses a modest but interesting digitalized archive of photographs from the era of constructing the railway which ends at the Banska St a nica building since 2009 (60th anniversary of the railway), the 'Youth Railway'.

Brochure 2: The painter Jana Farmanová was one of the artists in residence in 2010. She painted a cycle of 11 paintings around the theme of railway stations and its connotations called 'Seen from the platform'. The exhibition brochure contains documentation of her work as well as a short text by Ivana Moncolová.
