about the project The exhibition “No milk today” took place in a former dairy factory in Kolderveen. It was held to mark the end of the milk industry there and the transformation of the space into a place for artists and craftspeople to live and work. The exhibition was held in 2001. Since then the location has served as a place for production and inspiration for the artists that live and work there as well as for artists-in-residence who use the guest studio. This exhibition marked a turning point in the way the building was used.
in project language De tentoonstelling “No milk today” vond plaats in een voormalige melkfabriek in Kolderveen, in 2001.

about artist and participants Participating artists in “No Milk today” were Albert Brunsting, Robbie Cornelissen, Gerlof Hamersma, Age Hartsuiker, Loes Heebink, Miriam Hoekman, Insook Ju, Osnat Eilam Kedmi, Rita H. Klaucke / Bert Mebius, Jan Menses, Wies Noest, Erik Petersen, Ruud Pols, Adriaan Rees, Anneke Schollaardt, Schlomo Schwarzberg, John van der Valk and Sukyun Yang.

Most of the eighteen local and international artists involved made site-specific works. Photographer Albert Brunsting made pictures of former employees in what are now non-functional workspaces. Other artists were struck by the atmosphere of the building and the associations with its former functions. The villagers were invited to view the exhibition.

The project was initiated by KIK. KIK (Stichting Kunst in Kolderveen) is an initiative of two architects and two visual artists. The foundation organises activities in locations formerly used by the milk industry to stimulate art and culture in the region of Meppel, a town in the north of the Netherlands, as well as more generally in the north of the Netherlands and occasionally in the rest of the country.
