about the project César Manrique’s influence on the island of Lanzarote was great and will have repercussions for generations to come. An architect and artist who travelled and worked throughout the world, he settled in Lanzarote and decided it was his mission to enhance the beauty of the island and prevent it from being spoilt (after seeing first-hand what New York looked like).

Thanks to Manrique, strict construction laws were put in place that prevent the construction of high-rise buildings, stipulate the colours that can be used to paint them (basically white and green), ban advertising in public places (such as billboards) and until recently, ban large increases in the number of tourists allowed to stay on the island. The book introduces us to his life and work.
