about the project Since 2001 the association LandKunstLeben (Land Art Life) organizes art projects in eastern Brandenburg. In the area of the former castle-garden Steinhöfel, LandKunstLeben keeps a garden. In the season running from May to October the garden can be visited in the weekends, with events like a spring feast in May and an apple feast at the end of September. At special garden markets visitors can buy traditional and experimental harvest products. On mild summer evenings films are displayed and readings organized.

In August and September the association curates international exhibitions and projects with contemporary artists. The ideas and concepts for installations, performances and interactive art projects are developed in close collaboration with people from the village, the rural surroundings and the broader region. The art is not simply displayed, but developed in the context of working together. Both visitors and artists are therefore invited to create their own idylle.

about artist and participants The association LandKunstLeben was founded in 2001 in Buchholz, Brandenburg. Christine Hoffmann curates the projects, for which until now more than 40 artists were invited. Before Hoffmann developed international art projects and exhibitions and worked in the region of Brandenburg and Berlin. LandKunstLeben wants to develop projects within a social context and with an international reach.

Working together with the visitors therefore is an important part in one of the association’s projects, ‘Garten Steinhöfel’. In 2004 artists created a sculpture to walk on – together with young visitors that reacted on the theme ‘Panic’. In 2005 20 life stories of inhabitants were researched in the Oral History Project ‘Geschichten Geschichte werden lassen’. The results were presented as a sound installation in the garden’s apple tree path and created the feel of an acoustic ‘village street’.
