about the project The Festival der Regionen is one of the biggest culture festivals in Austria. It takes place since 1993 every two years, in different areas of Oberösterreich (main city Linz). The intention of the festival is to bring art and everyday life together with sociological, political and art-funded questions.
The 2007 Festival of Regions was presented as an oversized exhibition in the public space of the focal region situated along the Pyhrn expressway. The projects were situated in vacated shopping centres, service stations and parking areas as well as on fields, lakes and mountain rockfaces. Visitors could plan their individual route along the thirty kilometres using shuttle buses. Pia Lanzinger interviewed residents of Kirchdorf on the Krems, a village with ZIP Code 4560, and asked them about their relationship to faraway countries: from where did they move to Kirchdorf, where do they travel on holidays, where do they have a holiday house. Lanzinger took quotes from these conversations and searched for places in the urban space that, in an associative way, fit the desires and memories of the inhabitants. In this way, an urban panorama of curricula vitae opens up in stores, cafes and restaurants. The country names and quotes, together with installations in shop windows, function like a walk-on map. | | in project language Das Festival der Regionen ist eines der größten zeitgenössischen Kulturfestivals in Österreich. Es findet seit 1993 alle zwei Jahre an dezentralen Orten im Bundesland Oberösterreich (Hauptstadt: Linz) statt. An der Nahstelle von Kunst und Alltagsleben beziehen die Projekte des Festivals die Bevölkerung in die Auseinandersetzung mit gesellschaftlichen, politischen und künstlerischen Fragestellungen ein.
Das Festival der Regionen 2007 präsentierte sich als überdimensionale Ausstellung im öffentlichen Raum der Schwerpunktregion entlang der Pyhrnautobahn. Vom Stift Schlierbach bis zum Hauptplatz in Windischgarsten fanden sich die Projekte in leer stehenden Einkaufszentren, Tankstellen und auf Parkplätzen ebenso wie auf Feldern, Seen und Bergwänden. Alle Schauplätze waren entlang der B 138 bzw. an der Autobahn von der Abfahrt Kirchdorf / Inzersdorf bis Windischgarsten orientiert. Pia Lanzinger hat Bewohnerinnen von Kirchdorf, Postleitzahl 4560, nach ihrer Beziehung zu fernen Ländern gefragt: woher sie ursprünglich kommen, wohin sie gerne reisen, oder wo sie einen Zweitwohnsitz haben. Mit Zitaten aus diesen Gesprächen gestaltet Lanzinger diejeningen Orte im Stadtraum, an denen solche in die Ferne gerichteten Wünsche oder Erinnerungen zum Ausdruck kommen, oder sich assoziieren lassen. Einer begehbaren Landkarte gleich erschliesst sich ein städtisches Panorama von Lebensläufen, Sehnsüchten und Schicksalen ihrer Bewohnerinnen und damit ein Vielstimmiger Kontrapunt zum liebevoll gepflegten Mythos von der Sesshaftigkeit in ländlichen Räumen. |
