about the project The period between 1999 and 2009 was a transitional period for Grizedale, when the organisation was reworking the model of the artist's residency, rethinking the term 'Land Art' and re-energizing a programme that had remained almost unchanged from the blueprint laid down by a group of artists more than two decades earlier. The work produced during this time reflects the interest of a new generation of artists in working amongst the complexities of a rural context, and putting their woirk to the test outside the safety zone of the gallery system or a supportive peer group. The book offers an overview of this period.
