about the project Developed in collaboration with local residents “Multi Stop Shop” was a free, experimental, not for profit service for the community selling and showcasing items and information produced in Fingal County by amateurs, professionals and hobbyists. The informal mobile shop housed in a specially converted caravan toured the towns and villages of Fingal County.
To create Multi Stop Shop, Amy Plant lived as a guest in the heart of the county in a small village called Ballyboughal. More than just a shop, the project also acted as a host for small exhibitions and discussions and functioned as an in-house publishing point for local writers and musicians. Fourteen books were published of local writing and three music CDs were produced.
about artist and participants Amy Plant (London) works and lives in London. Plant initiates projects in which sensitivity to context and collaboration with communities are key, investigating the nature of ‘public’ spaces and how art can function within them. By enlisting a task force of local workers and looking to local people for assistance to renovate the old caravan, the project became gradually entwined with daily village life and pub conversation. The Multi Stop Shop project develops itself in collaboration with local residents and gathered a network of around one hundred suppliers from across the county.
