about the project Asked by the exhibitionspace KunstEyssen the artists Ingerid Opstelten and Ton Mulders made a film for the Bibliobox. They searched for areas in the surroundings of Alkmaar where city and countryside come together. They circled around the city and filmed the views left- and rightside from the car. The starting and ending point of the travel was the same.
In the film these views are placed underneath eachother. The combination of images gives a contrast of the busy roads surrounding the buzzling city and the peacefullness of the countryside. The moving images seen from the car are combined with pictures and video-images of farm-interiors. The ever kept silence of these places are being enforced with sounds in the film. The title 'up in between down / on the boundaries of the landscape' is fingerpointing to the structure in the film. The film gives a general image of an average growing city, not only of the city of Alkmaar. It was shown during the presentation of the Bibliobox in KunstEyssen, on a big screen and accompanied by sound and music. | | in project language In opdracht van KunstEyssen maakten de Alkmaarse kunstenaars Ingerid Opstelten en Ton Mulders speciaal voor de Bibliobox een film. Ze gingen op zoek naar plekken in Alkmaar waar stad en platteland elkaar raken en kwamen uit op de ringweg rondom de stad. Ze filmden vanuit een rijdende auto nu eens links en dan weer rechts het uitzicht. Begin- en eindpunt van de reis waren hetzelfde.
Al deze beelden zijn in de film onder elkaar geplaatst. Dat levert een contrast op van enerzijds de drukte op de wegen rond de rumoerige stad en anderzijds de rust van het stille platteland. De bewegende beelden die vanuit de auto zijn genomen, zijn gecombineerd met foto's en videobeelden van boerderij-interieurs. De eeuwige rust van het platteland wordt in de film met behulp van geluid benadrukt. De titel 'Up in between down / Op de grens van het landschap' verwijst naar de structuur van de film. De film geeft een algemeen beeld van een gemiddelde groeistad, dus niet alleen van de stad Alkmaar. Tijdens de presentatie van de Bibliobox in KunstEyssen werd de film vertoond op groot formaat, onder begeleiding van geluid en muziek. |
