about the travel During the exhibition at KunstEyssen in Alkmaar the Bibliobox made three forays into the immediate surroundings, accompanied by a host from the KunstEyssen Foundation. During one of these trips it paid a visit to Egmond Library.
The Box was placed on a table in the middle of the library, next to a terrace overlooking a bulb field. Escort Nathalie Jonker: “It was a beautiful location which was perfectly suited to the Bibliobox. It was a warm day, the temperature was around 30 degrees Celsius. It was cool in the library. There were hardly any visitors because of the warm weather, so people had plenty of scope to tell their stories. One man described how he used to make circlets out of daffodils and sell them to German tourists at the side of the road. He plucked the daffodils by hand from his father’s field. At that very moment we spotted a tractor moving through the bulb fields, beheading a whole row of tulips in only one minute." The Kultivator DVD kindled some memories and associations among some of the visitors. One woman from a farming family lived in a converted farmhouse. The DVD inspired her to engage in a dialogue with the cows: “We could place plates of food in the field some time.” Another visitor spoke about the vegetable patch she was cultivating with her husband in the North Holland dunes. The patches were laid during World War II when the population in the North of the Netherlands was starving. They can only be passed on within families. Otherwise they have to be relinquished because they are located in a conservation area. | | in original language Vanuit de expositie bij KunstEyssen in Alkmaar maakte de Bibliobox drie reizen in de directe omgeving, begeleid door een host van Stichting KunstEyssen. Tijdens een van deze reizen werd de bibliotheek van Egmond bezocht.
De box werd op een tafel midden in de bibliotheek geplaatst, naast het terras dat uitkijkt op het bollenveld. Nathalie Jonker, die de box begeleidde, vertelt: "Een prachtlocatie en zeer toepasselijk voor de Bibliobox. Het was een warme dag, met een temperatuur van zo'n 30 graden. In de bibliotheek was het koel en er waren op dat moment vrij weinig bezoekers vanwege het warme weer. Dat gaf aan de aanwezigen juist veel ruimte voor verhalen. Zo was er een man die vertelde dat hij vroeger altijd narcissenbollen op kransen speldde en die dan langs de weg verkocht aan met name Duitse toeristen. De bollen werden met de hand geplukt in het bedrijf van zijn vader. Op dat moment zagen we buiten op de bollenvelden een tractor die binnen een minuut een hele rij tulpenkoppen rooide." De dvd van Kultivator leidde bij een aantal mensen tot herinneringen en associaties. Een vrouw uit een boerenfamilie woonde inmiddels in een tot woonhuis omgebouwde boerderij. De dvd inspireerde haar om ook eens een dialoog met de koeien aan te gaan: "We kunnen ook wel een keer bordjes eten in de wei zetten." Een andere bezoeker vertelde over de groentetuin die ze samen met haar man onderhoudt in het duinreservaat van Noord-Holland. De tuinen zijn aangelegd tijdens de oorlog vanwege de hongersnood. Ze mogen alleen van familie op familie overgaan, zo niet dan moeten de tuintjes verdwijnen omdat ze in beschermd natuurgebied liggen. |
about the host Egmond Public Library lies on the road between Egmond-Binnen and Egmond aan Zee. A new and spacious building which was opened in 2007, it is an ideal setting for a spot of relaxed reading or for taking a peek in the Bibliobox.

Het nieuwe gebouw is dit jaar geopend en de bibliotheek geeft een zeer ruime indruk. Het uitzicht bleek heel geschikt voor een moment rustig lezen of een kijkje in de Bibliobox.
